  • Introduction

This year we have continued the hybrid format, in Valsaín (Segovia) and online, that we started last year and we have found that although it is more complicated, it has the great advantage that many more people can participate, so the benefit is greater for all. Also, experience and improved equipment have led to better results. Because of COVID19, there were no longer any sanitary restrictions, although some people preferred to keep their masks on, and no rooms were shared at the CENEAM residence. There were 97 registered participants (42 in person and 55 virtual) responsible for centers, libraries, experts and university professors from the 17 Autonomous Communities of Spain and 12 national parks and other natural areas. For the first time we had international support from Costa Rica.
The entire Advisory Commission was present at the seminar and contributed with their knowledge in various tasks. During the seminar, the participants were offered different publications donated by different centers.

  • Seminar development

    Wednesday 2nd November 2022

After the welcome to the seminar by Mercedes González de la Campa, Director of CENEAM, a round of introductions took place so that the new participants could get to know the rest of the group.

Before the start of the session, Antonio Moreno, CENEAM biologist, guided participants through the Pesquerías Reales (Royal Fisheries). The afternoon started with Rosario Toril, who reported on the status of the implementation of the RECIDA Action Plan 2021-2022 and on the projects of the IFLA Section of Environment, Sustainability and Libraries (ENSULIB).

Afterwards, Alfonso Peña from CEDREAC showed us how to create a fun experience in our library with Genially. Genially is an online platform for creating attractive interactive presentations in different formats. CEDREAC (Documentation and Resources Center for Environmental Education in Cantabria) is experimenting with this tool to develop virtual escape games. In this presentation, Alfonso Peña shows an example of a resource implemented with Genially to promote the CEDREAC library and the Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible. For this purpose, a virtual escape game was developed in which we can find a variety of activities and games. Most of these activities have used extensions developed by third parties and integrated into Genially, offering a wide range of possibilities beyond what the platform includes in its features by default. All the examples shown can be replicated using the free version of Genially.

Alfonso Peña shares that in the coming weeks he will give a free Genially course on his Twitch channel En Plan Planeta, thee live in open, so that anyone who wants to learn to manage this tool will have the opportunity to start from scratch to be able to develop virtual escape games as shown in the example developed by CEDREAC. The materials uploaded on the Youtube En Plan Planeta will also be available.

The following papers were then presented:

    • Projects of Teachers for Future Spain. Carmen Gloder. Teachers for Future Spain.
    • Implications of the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on the Human Right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. Montserrat Tafalla. Universitat de Barcelona. The Resolución de la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas 76/300, of August 1, 2022, recognizes the human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment and "urgently” adds to the body of human rights by reflecting the universal view of the obligation of environmental protection to protect the rights of all humanity. Administrations' actions to protect the human right to an adequate environment no longer derived from a guiding principle, but from the obligations - to respect, protect and fulfill - that flow from the new human right in order to achieve its effectiveness.
    • The functions of the school library and its role in schools. Ariadna Bonet. Escola Collserola.
    • Environment and territorial defense. The experience in the Corneja Valley. Mercedes Barreno. Environmental Consultant. In the Corneja River Valley (SW of Avila, Castilla y Leon), the air, surface and underground waters, and all elements that affect the landscape and environment are threatened by abusive proposals for open pit mining. It is an agricultural and livestock area rich in biodiversity, newly populated and with growing tourist potential. Its inhabitants, who have a strong environmental awareness, defend the valley by all legal means: Appeals, demonstrations, expert opinions or by publicizing its potential. To prevent the overexploitation of its resources and the pollution of its soils, the administration has not received any response to date from those who should be taking care of the citizens.
    • Characters, Stories and Tales of La Sierra de Las Nieves (Málaga). Pepe Pino. Sierra Nevada National Park. The results of the bibliographic research and the recovery of the personal archives related to the Spanish fir and the Sierra de las Nieves, started in 2018 and not yet completed, are presented in a summary. The original digitized texts have been consulted for free online access in Google Book, National Library of Spain (BNE), Gallica, digital libraries, institutional repositories, Internet Archive, digital newspaper libraries and Gazeta histórica; in addition, the personal archives of Manuel Vázquez del Río and José Pino Rivera are being recovered. The research has made it possible to improve knowledge of the "Relato del Pinsapo" (History of the Pinsapo), "sacar a la luz" (bring to light) new "Personajes del Pinsapo" (Characters of the Pinsapo), review bibliographies, disseminate and publish preliminary results, and recover written works by local authors.
    • WIKIREDEUROPARC: Open catalog of experiences in protected natural areas. Javier Puertas. Europarc Spain.

The Environmental Documentation Center Domingo Quiroga of CEIDA - a reference center for environmental education in Galicia - located in the Castle of Santa Cruz (Oleiros), was moved in March 2022 to new premises, namely the old stables of the Pazo de Lóngora in the municipality of Liáns in A Coruña. This change of location brought a change of direction, as the services and activities aimed at the general public were expanded, without forgetting the personalized attention and advice from professional staff that had been offered until now Activities aimed at awakening and promoting curiosity for the natural environment, spaces to promote green reading and collective reflection, actions to connect with green spaces or to host new works related to the environment are some of the objectives pursued by the dynamization plan of the new center. This communication summarizes part of the work carried out this year, starting with the plan for moving, transferring and relocating funds to continue with the programming of activities where nature and reading go hand in hand.
    • Comic and ODS. Irene Hernández de la Cruz. University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In this paper, two concepts are related that at first sight seem to be incompatible: comics and SDGs. The examples are divided into three groups that show how comics can be used as a resource to raise awareness, as an educational tool or for entertainment and fun.
    • Global Health Messengers. Marta Carracedo Martínez. CITA. Educational project of the Center for Agrifood Research and Technology of Aragon (CITA) to disseminate the Center’s research findings in the context of Global Health (One Health) and with the main objective of awakening scientific careers among elementary and special education students, turning participants into ambassadors messengers of research findings based on facts. This project was funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) under the Call for grants for the Promotion of Scientific, Technological and Innovation Culture.
    • What resources can a librarian offer to its users with a scientific profile?. Elena Morato. AEMET. Librarians must align their knowledge with the profile of their users. In a scientific library, staff knowledge of library resources is very low. They confuse repository, OPAC (catalog), reference manager, profiles. They do not know how to search in databases or portals for electronic books or journals. The use of appropriate tools and resources improves the image of the institution and researchers. It gives visibility and prestige and increases competitiveness. It facilitates research and information search tasks. It helps to manage the scientific production and that of the authors.
    • The names of Medicine in the streets of Madrid. Dissemination from libraries. José Manuel Estrada. 12 de Octubre Hospital Library.

It is worth mentioning the good work of Salomé Quintela from the Parque Nacional de Illes Atlánticas de Galicia as stretching instructor, since the sessions are very long and it is necessary to do these minutes of exercises that promote the physical and mental well-being of the participants. And the collaboration of Soria Natural for the coffee breaks.

The evaluation of the seminar was done through an online form.
